We’re looking for Digital Volunteers in Portishead and Clevedon to support people with sight loss by helping them with technology. You do not need to be an IT whizz!
After training, you will advise and teach people in the use of technology and equipment such as mobile phones, iPads, tablets, computers etc
This could involve supporting people who may have no experience or limited experience of smart phones or computers. Some may require brief help in one area, whilst others may need a series of sessions as they build their skills and confidence.

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Good IT Skills, Managing People

Good verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to explain things in simple terms without too much jargon. Confidence with a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone (you do not need to be an expert or have experience in all areas). A caring, patient, sociable personality. Good organisational skills and reliability. Honesty and trustworthiness. Experience of working with people with sight loss or disabilities is not required as full training will be provided.

We will offer induction training that includes Safeguarding, Health and Safety, confidentiality, boundaries and specific training on working with people with sight loss. You will also receive ongoing training using technology equipment as well as support in developing your skills in teaching and supporting others. You will have an assigned staff member to support and guide you in your volunteering.

Ideally at least one morning per week, but there can be flexibility. At present volunteering in this role is only available during working hours.
