Section Assistants - 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts

2nd Warwick Sea Scouts

We are looking for people who are interested in supporting our Scouting sessions, which run every evening of the week. There are a variety of sessions for different age groups, with different age appropriate activities.

Beavers are from 6-7pm on both Mondays and Thursdays, with each session having about 20 six and seven year old children. Cubs are from 6.30-8pm on both Mondays and Thursdays, with each session having about 30 eight, and nine year old children.

Scouts run from 7pm - 9pm on Tuesdays (girls) and Fridays (boys) and include about 40 ten to thirteen year olds.

Explorers are from 7pm - 9pm on Wednesdays and have around 40 fourteen to seventeen year olds.

There are different fun activities for the Beavers and Cubs every week, and no special skills are required apart from enjoying helping children to learn, develop skills and have fun.

The sessions take place in our new HQ building beside the Leisure Centre in St. Nicholas Park. Ideally we are looking for people who could come along most weeks on either Monday or Thursday, and they would be supported by our team of leaders.

Scouts and Explorers run in our HQ building throughout the Autumn and Spring, then spend most of the summer term on the River Avon, taking part in paddlesports, rowing and other water based activities.

Once a month the Scouts and Explorers go sailing at Draycote Water. Again no experience is necessary as there are always ways to help even if you don't like getting on the water! If you do have any water qualifications or skills we are always looking for more help in this area.

We would need to carry DBS checks and there would be a small amount of "Getting Started" training to carry out, provided online by the Scout Association. There would be an opportunity to become a volunteer uniformed Leader if anyone was interested.

2nd Warwick Sea Scout Group is a large Scout group based in St Nicholas Park, Warwick, established in 1959. We offer Scouting to children aged from 6 to 18 years old. Our Group is split into four sections: Beavers 6-8 years, Cubs 8-10.5 years, Scouts 10.5-14 years and Explorers 14-18 years. Being a Sea Scout Group we undertake all of the activities you would expect from land-based Scouts, from lighting fires and camping, to hiking and survival skills, but with the addition of sailing, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, power-boating, and much more. The Scout troops and the Explorer unit do the most boating but the other sections get taster sessions during the summer term.

We try to offer activities that challenge our members and help them grow into independent young adults with resilience, teamwork and leadership qualities they can look back on with pride. There are opportunities to camp, including a 2 week summer camp for Scouts.

Social Skills, Sport

No special skills are required apart from enjoying helping children to learn, develop skills and have fun.

As well as gaining externally recognised skills and having a brilliant time, Scouting also offers the chance to build on personal skills, like teamwork, confidence and leadership. A study found that over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives.

1-2 hours per week on any evening of the week depending which Section and age group you wish to volunteer for.
