Travel Hands charity relieves the needs of people with visual impairments by facilitating safe, convenient, and inexpensive outdoor travel so they can attend formal appointments, recreational activities and community events.

With Travel Hands, a VIP can submit a trip request that is automatically sent to a volunteer near them, alerting the volunteer to their location. The accepting volunteer will then come and pick the VIP up and walk towards the requested destination.

You get to participate in the most flexible volunteering experience that enables you to help whenever you want based on your flexibility. It is an opportunity to breathe fresh air, walk some more steps in the day, relax and make new friends in your area.

You are vetted through Enhanced DBS, trained by us and receive reward incentives from our partners.

Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring

Basic IT skills - internet & email

What we are looking for in a volunteer: - Ability to empathize with the problems faced by VIP and acknowledge the mission of the charity. - Good time management skills, being able to schedule walks with VIPs and arriving at the meeting point on time. - Committed & Reliable. - Compassionate. - Patient. - Trustworthy. - Good Listener, we would appreciate it if our volunteers can have interesting chats with VIP whilst on journeys.

As a Thank You, our volunteers get reward incentives that can be redeemed from our app. The distance walked with VIP is converted to points, points then converted to goodies as incentives from affiliated companies. We realise that the role of our sighted guides with Travel Hands is beyond just an act of volunteering. Different people have shared their diverse experiences and benefits from the experience. Each individual has found companions and wonderful conversations while helping VIP to go from point A to point B in London. For example, a young student is learning to be professional and accountable. An elderly retired citizen is able to socialise and contribute to society valuably. A job applicant is able to demonstrate credibility and accountability. Each of them feels more empathetic and is able to see London from the eyes of a blind person.

We require you to volunteer with us for at least the first 3 months after you have registered with us. However, Travel Hands is flexible for you and you can participate as per your schedule. We are active from 9 am to 9 pm all week. You can update your availability as per your comfort and schedule without any limit.
