The Volunteer Buddy role is a real opportunity to make a difference. This could be through helping to support
older people experiencing social isolation, individuals
living with a learning disability, or individuals living with mental health needs.

Being a ‘Volunteer Buddy’ could entail:

Introducing a local individual to community group
activities or social groups.

Accompany them to their activity or group and be present during the duration of their visit.

Assist in their journey either by public transport or walking and then attending the session with them. (Dependent on if an individual requires Travel Training support). Travel Training will be given for Volunteers who wish to, it is not mandatory. The Volunteer Buddy can also be seen solely as a supportive be-friending role.


Supporting, listening, encouraging, and helping
individuals recognise their potential.


You will have the possibility to help someone feel more connected to their community, improve mental and physical wellbeing, and recognise their potential.

All of which will aid to build a thriving local community that you live in.

You will receive a full induction and on-going training.

Basic IT skills - internet & email

• A non-judgemental approach with excellent communication and listening skills. • Ability to strike a rapport with individuals who may face multiple barriers. • A patient and calm demeanour • A flexible approach to tasks. • Reliable • Ability to work closely with a small team of volunteers and staff.

• Become involved in a new and exciting project designed to support the local community and its members. • Meet new people. • Variety in terms of the support you may be able to offer to an individual/community member. • Develop a better understanding of the community you live in. • Take part in further training and personal development.

Carry out their Volunteer Buddy duties in mutually agreed locations, and on mutually agreed days and times.

Various locations across Lichfield District - open to volunteers in all areas of this locality. The Volunteer Buddy will be assigned locations within their local community to support ease of access and practical travel.
