Purpose: To assist Support Staffordshire Community Officer - Healthy Communities SW. This project is part of a national NHS England approach to support the reduction of health inequalities in Cannock Chase.
Volunteers will develop community-based, community led action on addressing inequalities that will have significant impacts on health outcomes for individuals around early cancer diagnosis and hypertension.

Responsible to: Community Officer - Healthy Communities SW

Expected time commitment: flexible you can volunteer as much as or as little as you would like, we will work with you to make sure that your volunteering works for you and ensure that you are getting the most from your volunteering.



Key Tasks: Core20Plus
This includes:

• Reach out into the community and engage with people where they are at particularly with those who are not accessing health services.
• Listen and record peoples experience and perceptions regarding cancer and hypertension.
• Record conversations and feed this back to the Community Officer – Healthy Communities
• Attend regular meetings and networking events with a view of capturing information relating to the core health conditions.
• Provide accessible information about screening/preventive action to prevent/manage ill health.
• Provide information that will be shared with decision makers to identify solutions to the barriers.

Desirable Skills: • Enjoy talking to people (individuals and groups) and hearing the experience of others • Interest in improving health • Experience of using health services (desirable) • Good listener and engage empathetically • Ability to work with people from all backgrounds • Have an understanding of and commitment to, confidentiality and equal opportunities • Good IT skills or a willingness to learn.
