Trustee - Treasurer

We have a leading executive role for a treasurer to take FoSM forward into the 21st century! FoSM is a registered charity focused on the Heritage and Preservation sector, in particular, it was set up over 40 years ago to save the Spire at St Matthias Church atop Richmond Hill, a church described by Nicholas Pevsner (London 2, 1983) as "The Grandest Church in Richmond".

The role: Finance / book-keeping experience. A Team Player, prepared to get involved in active projects.

Useful are an understanding of charity investments, risk and reward management, maximizing income to cover working overheads.

You have an interest in Heritage and Preservation of historic buildings, and in being involved in Community Projects. e.g. running a large BBQ to raise funds at the Richmond May Fair, managing volunteers and having fun managing and interacting with people incl the public.

You'll contribute to trustee meetings - take on additional tasks e.g. chair a sub-committee, in generating new ideas for fundraising projects, ... a project leader.

Financial skills and understanding. Some experience of managing charity investments (fixed interest and or with investment funds) advantageous, but not essential. A team player, excellent communicator, and good with people (volunteers, and public outreach). A good understanding of other areas e.g. IT helpful. An interest in Building Heritage and Preservation (our specific purpose) helpful, but not essential. A quick learner. Your CV being provided would be useful for other trustees to see and understand a bit more about you before any meeting.

Social interaction at projects with public and volunteers alike - our main fundraiser now is an all day event but a lot of fun too, if some hard work (manual and technical in nature!) An outgoing personality will help our cause and in enjoying fundraising events more! We have social's with other trustees and a volunteers thank you event once a year (subject to interest in doing it!)

4 trustee meetings a year. Plus, periodic and ad-hoc meetings with other trustees re actions/activities and/or projects', planning and organisation thereof.

We'd arrange meetings where disabled access is possible if required. However, for projects, we really need able-bodied people to help with set-up process, operations during the day and take-down / pack-up at the end of the day. Volunteers at fundraising events who require disabled access can be accommodated and found suitable roles on the stall.

Our primary focus is to raise funds in aid of the preservation of the church fabric and spire at St Matthias, on the top of the hill and visible from all around Richmond and with views atop the spire for miles around and across London to the N, S, E and W. ! We warmly welcome all volunteers who are interested in our work - younger/older peoples of all ages, skills, religion or none, ethnicity and diversity. ... Willing to help at fundraising events - not just being a passive board member! We can find volunteer roles if disabled, so that is not a restriction to volunteering!

Volunteer Centre  Covid Safe

At fundraising events, we ensure safe hygiene and handling conditions apply - all involved in handling meat/food items wear hygienic gloves and change then regularly during the day. We protect against Covid or illness by requesting all volunteers/= & trustees are honest and keep away in event they are infected / ill. For trustee meetings, we ensure the meeting area is cleaned and that there are clean toilet facilities available.
