Women’s Beauty Therapist Volunteer

St Mungo's work directly with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing them with services to find paths away from the homelessness, for good.

We are looking for a female volunteer with beauty treatment experience, such as hairstyling, nail treatments and general pampering, and patience to support our wonderful female residents. You will be leading a monthly pampering session with the residents where you support them in learning how to take care of themselves, and also offer them beauty treatments.

You will be helping with all or some of the below tasks:
• Applying make-up and/or skincare products and/or nail art.
• Teaching and empowering the clients to do some of this themselves.
• Planning for the sessions ahead with your volunteer supervisor and agreeing
together on supplies and expenses.
• Engaging with clients inclusively, empathetically and respectfully.
• Adhering to St Mungo’s Policies and Procedures at all times.

Do I need to have specific skills?
• Have the necessary experience, Makeup Artist Qualification and Insurance; and/or have the necessary experience, Nail Technician Qualification and Insurance.
• Client and customer focused.
• The capacity to bring some materials and equipment, e.g. your preferred makeup and/or nail products
• Must be reliable and committed.
• A friendly personality, good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and motivation.
• An understanding of the causes of homelessness and its impact.
• A genuine interest in and commitment to St Mungo’s work and client group.

The aim of the pampering session is not to provide treatments for all of the residents but for smaller groups of residents to be encouraged to take care of themselves, and also to give them a greater sense of confidence in their physical wellbeing.

Things to remember:
– Please look at the time commitments and locations required for this role and be sure you are able to commit. This role requires a 6 month commitment.
– A DBS check will be carried out for this role as it is a client-facing role.
– Please be aware for this role we are only looking for volunteers who are female or female identifying.

Community Work

- Make a significant contribution to combating homelessness - Develop skills and experience of the homelessness sector within a dynamic, positive, friendly and supportive environment, and have access to some of the training courses at St Mungo’s - Access an extensive volunteer training programme and e-learning programme - Socialise with like minded people and other volunteers

Hackney-Monday-Friday, between 10am-6pm, 3 hours once a fortnight OR 3 hours once a month. *Please be aware for this role we are only looking for volunteers who are female or female identifying.
