Conversation Facilitator/Starter for MATCH Programme

MATCH is a programme of work being carried out by the Population Health Hub that brings together people that work in the health & care system, voluntary organisations & residents to improve access to health care by those who are affected by inequality. The MATCH programme identifies key local issues where there are ongoing inequalities, and works with partners to pinpoint and put in place ideas for change.

Do you enjoy talking with others, and encouraging others to have their voice heard? Are you confident in speaking up? This role will help lead the conversations and discussions that take place at the different events that MATCH delivers to support the programme. You will attend in-person events and support the facilitators to encourage attendees to speak up and help guide the discussion.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Help the lead facilitator to deliver events that will support the MATCH programme.
• Support on the day to help attendees to take part in conversations.
• Make sure that everyone gets a chance to take part in discussions at an event/workshop.
• Provide 1-1 support to attendees who need it.
• If you have capacity – help other residents to get to the events/workshops by supporting with travel, or setting up a meeting point for multiple people to meet.

Skills and attributes:

• Be friendly, welcoming and ready to chat to new people.
• Willing to start conversations with groups of people.
• Open and sensitive to others’ viewpoints, and be able to talk these through.
• Able to follow topics of conversation and take notes whilst speaking to people.
• Positive about community projects and involving residents.
• Positive and passionate about improving health in your community and borough.

Desirable skills and attributes but not necessary:

• Have an understanding of NHS & Social Care Systems.
• Have in depth knowledge of your local area/neighbourhood.
• Have an understanding of health & safety (training will be provided).
• Speak a community language.
• Have previous experience in helping with events or similar.

Once you have registered interest you will receive a short form to complete so that you can tell us a bit about yourself. Once we have your form, we can set up a 1-1 chat, where we can have a more in-depth conversation about the role. After the chat, if you wish to proceed you will then complete a short induction which will cover everything you need to know, as well as the training and support you will receive.

There will be around 3 – 4 events per year that will last 2-3 hours for each project area that will need support with discussion. You will also have the opportunity to take on more if you feel you have capacity to do so, and we can talk about that if you decide to take on the role.
