Do you have spare hours in the week? Would you like to support the NHS and play a vital part in the Covid-19 vaccination roll out? There are two main vaccination sites in Hackney - Bocking Street by London Fields and John Scott Health Centre on Green Lanes by the reservoirs - as well as some community pharmacies providing vaccinations. Volunteers at these sites work alongside NHS and other professionals to ensure that individuals coming to be vaccinated are welcomed and supported throughout their visit. We urgently need new volunteers who can commit to at least one shift a week. Shifts are 3 hours long and there are typically four shifts a day, starting at 8am and finishing at 8pm. Currently the 11am-2pm and 2pm-5pm slots are the most difficult to fill, so we urgently need to find volunteers who are available at these times. Volunteering is a great way to get out, meet people, use your life experience and learn new skills, at the same time as doing something which benefits your local community. As a volunteer, you will help each individual enter and exit the site safely, taking into account the latest Covid-secure guidelines, assist them with registering on arrival, and generally look after their wellbeing whilst they are at the vaccination centre. This may include answering questions on what will happen, guiding them to appropriate areas or just giving a friendly smile and allowing them to share a story. If you are interested in joining Hackney’s Covid-19 vaccination volunteering team then please register your interest!
