Garden assistant

Plantation Villa at Ruxton Farm

Help us grow vegetables and flowers, plus take care of trees already planted for future woodland and orchard.

The garden tasks will vary from composting, digging, weeding, sowing seeds, transplanting, planting out and harvesting. The tree care tasks will include removing grass/weeds from tree tubes and putting mulch around the base of trees.

It can sometimes include dead-heading flowers, cutting vegetation back and leaf clearance.

You will be working with Liz, an experienced grower and wild food expert.

Please bring a water bottle & any snacks needed plus sturdy shoes, old clothes and waterproof jacket/trousers. There is though shelter in the polytunnel/indoors.

An ability to follow guidance and some attention to detail with differentiating between plants/weeds. Physical energy but some tasks are gentle. All guidance will be given.

An opportunity to learn skills, plant identification, how to grow and take care of trees. Enjoy the outdoors, exercise, fresh air, peace, nature connection, sense of space and freedom. If volunteering over lunchtime, a Sri Lankan lunch - veg curry, rice, dal of different types. Per 2 + hour volunteer session, 1 yoga class, either 8am/5pm. The 5pm class is likely to be closer to the volunteer time.

Whatever you can manage from 1-5 hours by negotiation. Our requirements/Liz's availability is likely to vary.

Take Laskett Lane from the A49 driving past Laskett Gardens. Continue down long hill to Hoarwithy village, turn left at the T-junction. Take next right, go across River Wye, up hill & take next right. Then first gateway on the right with Plantation Villa sign. There is a daily bus to Kings Caple/Hoarwithy.

Its mostly outdoors so ok for anyone who can manage grass/perhaps uneven ground (to a limited extent). To access indoors there are steps involved for the staff area and toilet.
