The Conservation and Wildlife Volunteer Role offers the opportunity to be involved in a variety of tasks related to conservation around the farm. We are looking for volunteers who are keen to be involved in general conservation management of the farm which could include
hedgelaying or clearing thistles in our hay meadows. We are also looking for volunteers who have an interest in wildlife and would like to be involved in our wildlife surveys at the farm.
No experience is necessary but if you are interested in the topic and willing to learn please get in touch and we will be happy to teach you.

What you will be doing as a Conservation and Wildlife Volunteer:
The Conservation and Wildlife Volunteer role varies with the seasons and tasks required.
You will have the opportunity to work as part of a team alongside other volunteers as well as
independently.

Based on your experience, availability and interest you will be able to do:
• Practical conservation management – this involves cutting back vegetation, pond
clearance, hedgelaying, coppicing and tree planting.
• Taking part in a variety of wildlife surveys throughout the year as part of our citizen
science programme.
• Learn species identification, basic ecology and land management skills.
• Learn use and maintenance of tools.

• A good level of fitness
• Ability to work well with others as well as on your own
• Responsible and reliable
• Good communication skills
• Ability to follow instructions
• Be able to work within the policies and procedures of the Woodlands Farm Trust
following all recommended Health and Safety procedures
• Experience in conservation management or surveys would be an advantage

A full induction will be provided for you in your first few days. Your volunteer manager will be

All year around - Conservation management normally happens at weekends, whereas wildlife surveys are as and when the survey season requires.
