We are looking for Volunteers to befriend someone in the local community who is isolated and lonely. You will visit on a regular weekly basis (if possible) someone who is elderly or housebound. Perhaps you will be able to accompany them out on occasion for walks or to a trip to a lunch club or café. Your regular visits will make a big difference as you will offer companionship.
Geographical areas covered: Teignmouth, Dawlish, Shaldon, Bishopsteignton .
This activity takes place in the clients homes in and around the Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Teignmouth, Shaldon, Bishopsteignton and Chudleigh. areas.
Ideally the Volunteer would be a people-person who loves to meet new people and talk to them. Befriender training is offered to all Volunteers to provide guidance and offer advice. You just have to be yourself! Visits can be to suit you, weekdays or weekends.
You will rapidly get a sense that you are making a real difference and satisfaction that the person you befriend will have their spirits lifted by your visit. Isolation is one of the major causes of depression and ill health in the elderly, including dementia. By visiting you are helping to alleviate that isolation.
