The Oasis Project Soft Play sessions grew rapidly from their start in 2016, but came to an abrupt halt with the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic.

With the help of funding from the National Lottery we were able to adapt our services so as to be able to continue supporting the mums, dads, grandparents, carers who brought their babies and toddlers to Oasis, now offering Baby Days, Rainbow Days (for toddlers) and See & Know, all including our much appreciated soft play frame.

We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life: working, retired, not in work, mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, young people, older people and those in between, who have a heart and a love for working alongside young children, babies, and their families.

We might be just the place for you to gain some life confidence, work experience, some useful training, or just wanting to try your hand at something new and rewarding, if you have a few hours a week to spare.

We are seeking volunteers who can help on one or more mornings through the week, at this time particularly on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are looking for people to undertake the following roles:

Front of House’ Volunteers: setting up and clearing away the venue.

Serving Volunteers: to work alongside the families, being a friendly face, chatting, listening, serving refreshments, supporting and preparing craft activities.

Kitchen/Café Volunteers: to serve customers, making drinks/ food preparation.

All sessions are during the morning, and full training and support will be given.

Volunteers will gain valuable work and social skills, in a warm, friendly, fun, enjoyable and highly rewarding setting.

Catering

Art & Craft, Cleaning & Tidying

Specific skills are less important than a 'can-do 'attitude and willingness to 'muck in', although a positive interest in children and families would be an asset. Some degree of multi-tasking is required (such as waiting on while delivering table service from the cafe). Some numeracy skills would help when waiting on, but this is not essential for all roles. For kitchen roles, some experience of catering would be beneficial but a positive and calm approach would suffice as training will be given. It would add value to applications to have a creative imagination, as well as the skills to share this with toddlers and parent/carers.

Volunteers will join an enthusiastic and welcoming team who support each other and those who come to our sessions. We are committed to providing volunteers with the necessary training to be effective in the role, and each new volunteer will receive regular supervision and a development plan, whether you are looking to improve your CV, strengthen your confidence or simply give something back to your community.

3.5 hours, morning.
