Civil Emergency Response Volunteer (ERV)

We are looking for volunteers who will be prepared in the event of an emergency situation to provide support to the emergency services if required within the Borough of Bury.

The role is varied but may include:
- Helping to staff a rest centre for an incident.
- Door knocking to warn communities of ongoing incidents.
- Helping at a donation point for those who may need support.
- Driving supplies to a site or to individuals who may be unable to leave their homes.
- Being aware of the risks that your community might face.
- Identifying which members of your community might be vulnerable in an emergency, and be prepared to offer assistance if required

You don’t need any experience to be an ERV, we will give you any necessary support and training to do your role.

You don’t need any experience to be an ERV, we will give you any necessary support and training to do your role. Having a car isn’t a necessity, as long as you are prepared to travel to where the incident occurs or support individuals in your local area with humanitarian assistance. However, there are particular skills that would be useful for this role, a few of these are listed below (you do not require all of these): Administration skills Care of older people Catering Childcare Communication skills Computer / IT skills Counselling Crisis experience Customer care Disability awareness Domestic skills Driving First Aid Health & Safety Hospital work Languages Lifting/handling Parenting skills Sign language

This is an opportunity to help support your local community in a time of crisis. You will have access to the Bury VCFA training courses and charity discounts.

There is no specified time commitment for this role. Meetings will be available to attend at a minimum of quarterly. Deployments will be as and when we are requested to support by the statutory services.
