Repairer - Electronics/tech

Jersey Repair Cafés

http://www.repaircafe.org.je This link will open a new window.

The 3 Jersey Repair Cafés need electronics/tech repairers to join our pool of volunteers at our St. Brelade, St. Helier and Grouville Repair Café events.

Volunteer repairers come along on a Saturday morning with their electronics tools, to help repair visitors' broken/damaged household electronics/tech items. It could be a broken radio, TV, toys, gadgets, hifi, old record players, clocks, TV remotes, etc..

As we all work as a team, we can ask each other for advice on a repair, or perhaps for a tool or meter, spare fuse or lampholder; we do carry a few common items but any spare part needed would usually need to be ordered by the visitor. We usually have a calibrated PAT tester available to test mains powered electronics, and trained users on hand.

We encourage visitors to see what we're doing and help with the repair where possible, to give them confidence to learn the skills themselves and hopefully consider repairing their own things in future, rather than discarding or replacing them.

Each Repair Café team runs an event in rotation every 9 weeks, so if you wanted to help at all 3, then the maximum demand on your time would be a Saturday morning every 3 weeks, but there is no minimum commitment and you can come along as little or as often as you like.

It's a great social, community event with free tea, coffee, biscuits and sometimes homemade cakes, live music from musicians on the stage and a great, friendly atmosphere.

Electronics/tech skills, with the ability to work safely and produce safe repairs.

Volunteers get to meet new people, help them with their electrical repairs and encourage them to consider repair in future, rather than discarding or replacing, in a friendly and lively social environment, with free refreshments and live music. (and sometimes homemade cake!)

There is no minimum time commitment. You can come along as little or as often as you like, with events being run around the Island every 3 weeks. (Each of the 3 Repair Cafés runs and event every 9 weeks).
