Supporting the Duty Manager and other staff in the day to day running of the Museum.

Help us to create a friendly visitor-focused environment and to ensure all visitors to the museum have the best experience possible.

We aim to have 1-2 volunteers covering each shift during Museum opening hours; Thursday- Sunday 11.00-17.00. (Thurs- Sat 10.00-16.00 in Autumn / Winter)
Shifts are 3 hours long.

Duties:

• Welcoming visitors, providing information about the Museum and any temporary exhibitions
• Being present as a point of contact for visitors
• Giving information and being a friendly face in the ‘Founder’s House’ area
• Giving information and being a friendly face in 'Castleside'
• Assisting with visitor flow and orientation, including use of the lift

Whilst you are volunteering for us the Panacea Museum will:

•Provide you the necessary training needed to undertake your duties within the museum.
•Provide a safe working environment, and any equipment or supplies needed
•Assign a member of staff or a volunteer to support you (this will normally be the Volunteering & Engagement Officer)
•Reimburse public transport expenses
•Provide you with refreshments during your working hours

Events & Stewarding,General & Helping

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Reading & Writing

Good communication skills, comfortable talking to visitors and welcoming them to the Museum. An interest in history / women's history is preferable. This role includes some lone working.

Social aspect, meeting new people. Learning about history and religion. Development of customer service skills. Option to assist with special events. We offer : 2-3 volunteer trips per year, either a lunch (paid for) or a trip to another museum. Free refreshments from our Tea Room to volunteers Reimbursed travel costs- e.g. bus fares or parking fees

Ideally one shift (3 hours) each week or every other week.

After you are registered with us and have started volunteering- bus / train fares wil be reimbursed if receipt is given Nearest parking is Lurke Street multi storey. Parking costs whilst volunteering are also reimbursed when a receipt is given.

Step-free access to main museum building 'The Haven' Step-free access in Castleside building and an accessible toilet, as well as a platform lift to all levels. (this role is based primarily in Castleside). Unfortunately due to the architecture of the Victorian buildings, there is no step-free access to our 'Founder's House' building. Please note- this role includes some lone working, we are not able to assign a member of staff at all times as we are a small team. Staff will be checking on you and you will have use of a radio so we can all keep in touch,
