FBYM is a small but ambitious local charity dedicated to supporting all Bedfordshire children and young people to benefit from high-quality music provision. FBYM’s belief that participation in music making improves young people’s life chances has driven the charity forward for over fifty years.
Over the last twenty years, young people’s access to music has reduced due to changes in education policy, especially in secondary schools, increased pressures on school and local authority budgets and, ever rising demands families have experienced on their family budgets, meaning many simply cannot afford music making activities.
Our raison d’etre is to make it possible for all children and young people in Bedfordshire who want to participate in music making to be able to do so.
Will you join us?
FBYM is looking to appoint new trustees to help shape its future supporting children and young people in Bedfordshire to access musical opportunities.
Passion and belief in music having a unique ability to improve the lives of young people is important, however, previous experience as a trustee, or musical ability is not required.
We welcome individuals over eighteen years of age from diverse backgrounds.
If you share our passion and have experience or skills we would be pleased to hear from you.
This could be your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people in the community as well as gaining leadership skills, developing governance experience, and helping to shape FBYMs future development. From more information please contact: chair@fbym.org.uk
Trustees can expect to spend up to five hours per month on preparation, meetings and occasional attendance at events or concerts. Board meetings take place approximately six times per year, which may be a mix of F2F, online, or hybrid.
Trustees are appointed for three years. Trustees may reapply at the end of their term.
If you have any questions or would like additional information prior to submitting their application, please contact the Chair of the Trustees chair@fbym.org.uk to arrange an informal conversation or have your questions answered by email.
Letters of application of not more than two sides of A4 should outline your interest in joining FBYM as a Trustee and what skills you would bring to the Board. A supporting CV may be provided, if you think this would be of assistance to the Trust board.
The board will invite applicants to meet with two or three of the Trustees to discuss their applications. Following the receipt of references and standard safeguarding checks, including DBS clearance, these trustees will then make recommendations to the Trust board in respect of appointments.
Applications should be submitted by email to chair@fbym.org.uk

FBYM is committed to Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
