HopeWorks (formerly King’s Arms Project) was started over 30 years ago as a response to seeing people sleeping rough on the streets of Bedford. Today, we work in Bedford Borough and Central Beds to break cycles of poverty and loneliness by creating spaces for community, where people find support, dignity, and a chance to start again. At the heart of who we are is a simple belief: every person matters.
The Refugee & Migrant Service (R&MS) comprises of two teams who work in collaboration with one another to provide holistic support for individuals resettled to the U.K. Since 2015, the team has helped 600+ men, women, and children build a life in the U.K.
Many of the families have a history of making or altering their own clothes and Community Threads is a sewing club within R&MS for women who want to learn English, sew, and build community.
Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Community Threads Volunteer are to;
Assist the ESOL Tutor to demonstrate sewing skills by hand and on a sewing machine.
Assist club members with their sewing projects.
Report back to ESOL Tutor on learner progress and feedback.
Help set up and clear down the classroom before and after each session.
