What you will be doing

IT Support - The Bedford Competition is a creative writing competition for short stories and poetry. Based in Bedford we are a not-for-profit organisation with our proceeds donated to local and national charities promoting literacy. We also support local writers with annual sponsored writing courses.
Our competition runs from 1st May until 31st Oct. In 2025 we had 2,800 entries from sixty-one countries across the world.
We are a small, local organisation run by a volunteer committee. As the competition has grown in recognition in its sector we need more help.

We need a volunteer with IT technical skills to help support our WordPress website and back-office systems. Working with our Web-site Manager to ensure that systems are running and effective. An ongoing but not full-time. A work from home role with regular meetings in Bedford.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
