Specific duties will include:

Pitch marking, mowing and improvement of overall presentation of the ground, to meet the demands of its busy football calendar. To provide the finest playing surfaces possible for its affiliated teams, partners and clients. To repair and protect the turf and reduce the risk of unnecessary injury by those that use the facilities.

Assisting to restore areas of the turf damaged by high intensity action, prompting heavy wear and tear, such as goalmouths and centre circles.

Helping to prepare the ground and its surrounding facilities for any events being held of a sporting, entertainment or commercial nature.

Addressing and resolving any damage caused to the playing surfaces made by neighbouring animals.

Help to drain the pitch of heavy rainfall and manage irrigation, to ensure that all fixtures required of the ground go ahead safely, passing the necessary, timely pitch inspections by match officials.

General ground maintenance and gardening tasks to remove unwanted vegetation, foliage and weeds within the premises.

Repair works in the form of divoting after warm up’s, half time and post-match use.

Aid in the recovery and off-season preparations of the playing surfaces, including any re-seeding required, relevelling and redefining pitch perimeters.

Washdown and cleaning of machinery prior to next use.

Ensure the safe and secure storage of equipment and machinery.

Comply with all Health and Safety regulations and requirements within the club.

Drive vehicles and/or handle equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow grounds team, and communicate to the clubs Head Groundsperson any issues which might be identified.

Undertaking general maintenance operations associated with pitch and associated infrastructure.

Work as part of the grounds team to share the workload, prioritise issues of the greatest concern and work together to problem solve any issues which may present themselves.

There is an expectation is to work at least 50% of home fixtures.

Person Specification – Essential Characteristics

A self-starter with a high level of initiative, proactivity, and assertive approach

Uses initiative with minimal supervision, including in challenging weather conditions and situations.

Can manage a heavy workload with strict deadlines.

Flexible and willing to take on ad-hoc tasks as this role will require weekend and evening working.

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

It would be preferable if the applicant had some experience in ground maintenance at a sports facility, and ideally a football ground. However, a willingness to learn, and a positive collaborative attitude to be part of the club's volunteer team is the only essential criteria. Initial induction, training and continual support will be provided, to cater for all levels of experience and confidence.

Free admittance to all Arlesey Town FC Home games. A complimentary non-alcoholic beverage from the Members Bar and one item of matchday food from the Food Kiosk (subject to availability).

Predominantly, most crucial and essential time required of this role is prior to Arlesey Town and Baldock Town Home matches. These are played on Saturday afternoons (15:00pm Kick Off) and Tuesday evenings (19:45pm Kick Off). However, other fixtures played on our pitches throughout the week, by ATFC affiliated clubs and/or its clients may require additional support. To be determined by the Head Groundsperson.
