Volunteer rehabilitation Assistant - Speech and Language Therapist Support.

Group or 1-1 work available, helping clients during their speech and language sessions,

The main purpose of this role is to work with the clients either within a group or individually to complete a variety of activities within speech therapy sessions. All session activities have a purpose and are set by the key worker or Speech and Language Therapist to help practise, build and improve communication skills. Some 1 to 1 work may incorporate worksheets to address all areas of cognition for example, memory, attention, planning, problem solving, daily living skills, brain injury education etc. The role is to assist/support/enable/motivate the client to complete the work.

You will be paired with an experienced volunteer, initially, before running a group or 1:1 session when needed with the support from other volunteers and/or the session coordinator.

The role includes providing verbal or written feedback about clients and the sessions. Additional roles include helping get tea's, coffee's, lunches etc. as well as providing a friendly ear.

Session times are Wednesday only, between 10am to 3.30pm (attending just AM or PM sessions are fine - please contact for times).

Language Skills, Reading & Writing

A good level of numeracy and literacy, patience, an interest in seeing people succeed.

A great addition to a CV - experience relating to a future career or as a role undertaken between jobs or courses. This role also offers practical experience for those who have theoretical experience (for example, from a Psychology degree). Training is provided (e.g. health and safety, safeguarding etc.). Learning new skills (for example, improving communication with others, learning non-verbal communication; admin skills; reporting information, etc.) Opportunities to socialise with other volunteers. Regular volunteer meetings - have your voice heard. A "feel good" factor from: - Helping clients and seeing their progress - Having a positive involvement in their rehabilitation.

There is an opportunity to attend some of our Zoom sessions, which we run alongside our in-house sessions. Inside the centre: - a one-way system is in place down the main corridors. - Everyone is to remain 2m apart at all times, including at the tables during sessions. - Unless permitted, all persons must wear a mask when moving around the building. - Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the building, - All persons entering the building must provide a negative COVID test result - All staff have been vaccinated. - PPE is available. - Nobody to swap seats etc. without the area being disinfected, first. - Rooms are ventilated - Cleaning items are available in every toilet - Staff and current volunteers are the only ones to enter the kitchen areas (to ensure limited personnel are in one area at a time)
