What you will be doing

BRASS runs drop in sessions for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. we have specialist advisers for Immigration and Benefits. We require a volunteer to advise clients on Tuesdays on more general matters eg. utility bills; school applications; GP registration etc.
Volunteers must be friendly, approachable, literate and able to log information on the database. Many of our clients do not have English as a first language and therefore need our help.

Skills Description

Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people. Ability to add basic information to the database. Good literacy skills in order to help people who do not have English as a first language.

We welcome people with lived experience of immigration but this is not essential for the role. Much of the advice given to clients is about helping people to navigate British systems and so a good understanding of this is required.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
