What you will be doing

Are you interested in volunteering your time in a local care home by leading or supporting in-house activity sessions with older residents or by offering your talent or skill?

We place individuals or groups as activities volunteers, such as singers and musicians. Perhaps you have a hobby or skill you would like to share, such as knitting or drawing, or you would be happy to support residents' with quizzes, puzzles or word searches.

If you would like to contribute to the wellbeing of care home residents in any of these types of ways, please contact us for more information.

Skills Description

Good communication skills and patience are often required as many residents have dementia. Skills in music, poetry, or arts and crafts would be advantageous.

Time Commitment

The frequency of visits is to be negotiated by you, FFL and the care home. A solid commitment is required that you will be able to attend as planned.

Covid Safe

Volunteers should not visit care homes if they are infectious in any way. Local care home rules must be followed and adhered to.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
