In addition to responding to emergencies Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) undertakes other activities which reduce risks in the community and helps to keep people, environments and property safer.
These activities include Home Fire Safety Visits undertaken in people’s homes, encompassing home safety assessments, personal lifestyle and wellbeing checks; sharing information at public events; giving safety talks; and distributing information at community locations. There is a clear relationship between the amount of prevention work we undertake and the number of fires in the community.
Volunteers are a valuable way to increase the contact and communications we have with the general public from a range of cultures, faiths and seldom reached communities in Bedfordshire.
We have volunteer opportunities in face-to-face engagement, targeted event organisation and attendance, public speaking, placing informational literature in community locations and keeping it topped up. We are seeking to actively engage with all faiths, cultures and ages in the most appropriate and respectful way.
This role is flexible and the volunteer can agree which aspects suit their personal preferences, needs and skillset.

Advice, Information & Support,Languages & Translation

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Language Skills

Home internet and computer literacy Fluent in spoken English Alternative language/s speaker Willing to undertake training Punctual and reliable People engagement experience Available for minimum 4 hours per week and remain under 48 hours total weekly work + volunteering time Willing to undergo Disclosure and Barring Enhanced check

This is a rewarding role where you will develop your interpersonal skills and knowledge base while helping to increase the diversity and number of local people accessing Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Services' prevention advice and support.

Flexible. NB: Your total time including any employment/s and other volunteering must not exceed 48 hours per week.
