As a Fuel Support Advocate you will be directly helping people who are struggling to heat their homes effectively and safely, especially those who are digitally excluded.
People without internet access, many of whom need also to be in a warm environment due to health conditions or age, are affected most because much help is available online only.
The type of tasks you would be doing are as follows.
- Contact client, confirm what we offer is suitable, arrange appointment to visit
- Gather details of their situation using online checklist and assess whether their heating methods are safe and effective
- Complete a benefits review if appropriate, using a simple online tool
- Ascertain whether client is on PSR (Priority Services Register), what tariffs they are on and whether appropriate
- Contact energy and/or utility supplier/s to access help and/or set up payment plan, as required
- Identify additional sources of support available such as Warmer Homes, from local authorities, charities, grant-making bodies and similar relating to paying bills, grants for insulation, new boilers and similar
- Support client to apply or make application/s on their behalf
- Refer client elsewhere for help we cannot provide
- Follow up as necessary
