As well as responding to emergencies Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) undertakes other activities which reduce risks in the community and helps to keep people, environments and property safer. These activities include Home Fire Safety Visits encompassing personal lifestyle and wellbeing checks as well as home safety assessments in people’s homes.
We want to visit lots more vulnerable people at home throughout all Bedfordshire and need volunteers to help us do this and to be involved in the positive impact our community fire prevention activities have. In particular, we need volunteers who can help us increase our contact and communications with a range of cultures, faiths and seldom reached communities in the most appropriate way.
Typically, you will…
- Contact clients and arrange to visit at mutually convenient time (N.B. recipients have requested a visit, not cold calling)
- Visit client at home and carry out fire safety, lifestyle and wellbeing assessment using online tool
- Provide and fit (stick on) smoke and carbon monoxide alarms if required
- Share information as necessary
- Provide contact details of / refer client to other organisations for additional help we don’t provide, social activities, etc
- Record your activity

Admin, Good IT Skills, Reading & Writing

An excellent telephone manner with good clear speaking voice and fluent in English. A second language would be useful but is not essential.
