Day Centre Volunteer - ROLE DESCRIPTION

Headway Luton is a charity that supports people with an Acquired Brain Injury. At our day centre, clients take part in a wide range of activities from cognitive exercises, physical exercise, yoga, mindfulness, IT, arts and crafts, music and singing while also receiving help and advice to enable them to live as independently as possible.
Volunteers support clients throughout all their activities and maybe offer their own different skills and experiences to enhance the clients’ day at Headway.. Good communication, active listening and social skills are essential.

All of Headway's volunteers are highly regarded and are essential to the successful delivery of all the services.
Volunteers need to:

- Be aged 16 or over
- Willing to learn and apply training
-Enjoy meeting people from a diverse range of backgrounds
- Possess good communication – verbal and listening skills
- Have at least one regular spare day a week to offer
- Be committed to attend regularly
- Have a confident personality
- Maybe have personal skills or interests to share

All volunteers are carefully selected and their personal skills are matched to specific roles and/or to work alongside individual clients.

We welcome applications from anyone regardless of age, ability level or from any background, especially those who reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of our town.
Due to our duty of care to our vulnerable clients and other staff we can only recruit volunteers who have had, or are scheduled to have, their Covid 19 vaccinations. Evidence of vaccinations will be requested.

Volunteers will receive:

- A full induction and on-going relevant training for their particular role.
- Supervised work experience supporting adults with an acquired brain injury.
- Public transport travel and lunch costs reimbursed up to set limits.
- Acquired brain injury training.
- Personal fulfillment and fun working for a progressive charity.
- Enhanced career prospects with a professional reference for future use.

We are looking for people to volunteer in our day centre in Alma Street, Luton.

Our opening times are 9am-3:00pm Monday to Friday but we can be flexible in agreement with the days/hours you would like to volunteer. If you are interested, please tell us a bit about yourself!

Must have good communication skills, both orally and listening Must be able to undertake induction and ongoing training

Insight into social care work in a day centre, and the causes and consequences of an acquired brain injury. Volunteers will make good friends and hopefully share a laugh or two working for a progressive charity. Volunteers will be able to increase their skill range or share their existing skills. Public transport travel and lunch costs reimbursed. Day or hours to suit Professional reference for enhanced career prospects
