The Linking Lives Befriending Service has grown out of the work already carried our by Project 41 which is the social action work run out of Woodside Church, Bedford.
Our Befriending Service Volunteers contact/visit people who are aged 18+ in need of a listening ear and friendship. Befriending takes place via weekly telephone calls or home visits or maybe visiting a local café or walk around the park. When a good relationship has been established, support may be offered to help people to integrate into other activities in the local community. Ideally, we would like a 6-12 month commitment, but we understand that life events happen. Full training will be given.

Be a good listener; non-judgemental; considerate and caring towards others; be aware of confidentiality and have an understanding of the stresses of life and how that can affect people.

The opportunity to offer a positive friendship to people in need of a listening ear. Allows the opportunity for you to bring hope into people’s lives. Supporting and encouraging people to make connections within their local community.

Visiting - approx 1 hour a week Telephone - approx 30 mins per week/fortnightly

The service is run out of Woodside Church, Dover Crescent, Bedford but volunteers visit people at their home address/local venues, within Bedford Borough. Where possible we would match a volunteer and friend living in a similar location.
